Booking a hotel in Manhattan looking to get away from the less economically stable side of New York? Welllllll … it ain’t that easy I’m afraid! Don’t get me wrong I LOVVEEE NEW YORK for all that New York is but THE ONLY reason I chose to stay in Manhattan was to be close to some of the action, (heck, we were literally a stones toss away from The Empire State Building.. so close in fact, we almost didn’t recognise it until we got a block or so away!) we also wan to d to escape some of the characters you may find lighting up in the Nostrand Ave stairwell!! Did not happen! Unfortunately, as I learned, being so close to the Port Authority means you have a load of addicts on the street from sun up to sunrise. It ain’t just crack these kind fellows are smoking either! Don’t be alarmed though, they, well most of them are harmful enough. Just make sure you keep a few quarters at hand to ‘tip’ them when they open the doors to the stores or give you some real friendly greeting. But that’s New York! I might hear you all say. Fair enough, yes it is but I’m just writing this to prepare you, just in case. Like I say, my partner and I LOVED it! Being so close to Times Square, all the tall buildings and Hudson Yards was brilliant. The subway system in NY is so cool: you can literally get to anywhere with ease anddddd every carriage has air conditioning! Mayor Of London are you listening? So even though the station itself may be toasting, once you get into your carriage you get a nice reprieve. I digress: the hotel and staff, especially Krystal, were amazing. The breakfast team are insanely polite and accommodating. The breakfast buffet was excellent: lots to choose from and it tasted oh so good! Parking is crazy out here. If you struggle with the signs in your home country, please forget car hire when you come to NY. Also: beware of Statue Of Liberty ticket websites!!!

We had booked bed only board and were very pleasantly surprised by the hotel. The staff were helpful and friendly, check in was fast and they helped us by finding two rooms not far from each other. Everywhere was clean and well maintained and the rooms were clean, comfortable and well thought out to maximise the space. I had read reviews that the rooms were small but we were very comfortable and didn't find the size an issue. Nice hot showers, fluffy towels, nice soaps etc. The hotel is in a fantastic location - just far enough from the noise of Time Square but also within easy walking distance (about 5-10 mins). Not far from Penn station and some great places on the doorstep to get a coffee and breakfast if you haven't booked that at the hotel. Would totally recommend and definitely be back if we visit NYC again.

The property was located close to Times Square, an easy walk to Broadway shows and dining. The rooms are a good size and the hotel was clean. We felt safe and would stay there again. Check in process was easy and staff friendly. Tamra checked us in and was friendly and knowledgeable. She gave us a couple of places to dine, and we tried both and neither was a disappointment. It was a nice touch to be given a warm oatmeal chocolate chip cookie at check-in. Panashe and Fran were helpful and fun to interact with, they seem to enjoy their jobs. All staff were friendly we came in contact with.

This is the hotel for LOCATION. Easy when arriving from Penn Station, walkable to everywhere. Close to subway entrances. Staff were friendly and helpful. The room is small, but with organisation and cooperation 2 adults and 2 teenagers managed to cope for 4 nights without murder. And the rooftop bar is wonderful (though no fruit juice on the days we went). The views were fantastic, and so quiet and comfortable. Door/concierge was well staffed and we never felt unsafe or uncomfortable coming or going, even late in the evening.
